He became famous from his trumpeter instrumentalist sole called "The Lonely Bull".
He partnered with Jerry Moss to form a music company called A & M Records. During the 1960's when his Tijuana Brass music was popular and still is.
California Institute of the arts is going to name their music department after him.
They will call it the Herb Alpert School of Music in honor of his donations.
